Social Literacy Book SC3
This unit begins by investigating the concept of culture: what elements make up culture and how is culture acquired? It then goes on to consider culture contact, migration, subcultures and tourism. These concepts are introduced as a means of tackling the issue of intercultural communication. Throughout the unit, students are challenged to clarify and examine their own cultural perspective through active social inquiry. The Social Literacy Project has developed this unit as part of an interdisciplinary social science course for primary and secondary schools. This unit is part of a series for the upper secondary school. The overall goal of Social Literacy is that, through a sequence of social investigations, students will build up a language of social concepts as tools for self and social understanding and for active, confident social participation.
