Social Literacy Book SC1
This unit introduces students to the methodologies of the various social science disciplines; particularly history, economics, sociology, anthropology and geography. Together, these form the basis of an interdisciplinary study of society and culture. These methodologies are then applied in a cross-cultural comparison of various rites of passage and students' investigation of their own lives. The Social Literacy Project has developed this unit as part of an interdisciplinary social science course for primary and secondary schools. This unit is one of a series for the upper secondary school. The overall goal of Social Literacy is that, through a sequence of social investigations, students will build up a language of social concepts as tools for self and social understanding and for active, confident social participation.
